Transport Assistance in Southwark

You can apply for travel assistance through the Southwark Council website, where you will find detailed information on eligibility criteria, the types of support available and the application process.

The council provides various travel assistance options, including free school transport, personal travel budgets, or travel training, depending on your child’s specific needs and circumstances.

EHC Plans

If your child has an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHC Plan) and, due to their specific needs, finds it difficult to travel to school independently or safely, they may be eligible for additional support with school transport. Please click the button below for more information:

To apply, you will need to complete an online application form and provide relevant supporting documents, such as details of your child’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHC Plan) and any medical or specialist reports that highlight their travel difficulties. Helping you get there on your own

There are several schemes available offering this service:

  • A to B Travel training provides an independent trainer to support a child or young person learning to travel a particular route
  • The Independent Travel Training Bus is a 90-minute interactive journey. Scenarios cover personal and road safety whilst traveling alone enabling participants to make full use of London’s bus network
  • Southwark Independent Travel Training (SITT) is a flexible programme which is adapted to help each young person throughout their education
  • The Blue Badge Scheme offers parking concessions for people with severe mobility problems so that they can park close to where they need to go.  Click here for more >>
